atomic

ok, i literally took one picture the whole day.  i snapped this quick pic with the intention of going back for more but you know how it goes sometimes.

oh, wait no, there were two, liz and sarah aka femme covert’s fabulous wares.

we were crammed together pretty tight between the tables.  luckily robin from neckeds didn’t really mind when i touched her butt on accident.  speaking of butts, i think the best story of the day was when robin’s friend pointed out the sign i’d put on the group of these little sculptures:

the sign said “butt” seeds 3 for $15.  they were all like, “are those really for your butt?”  which totally shocked me.  because they are, you know, seeds WITH butts, not seeds FOR butts.

bottom line–aesthetically speaking i’m more about poop than sex so i changed the sign.  haha.

hot out of the kiln.

last post before atomic.  i’ll definitely post remotely from the bazaar with pics of everything going on. come on down and get a group of these little guys for your home.  i’ll also have some of the large wall peices and an assortment of rattles and tiny sculptures.

getting ready for atomic.

small wall piece, wood/salt fired.

last year i wrote about shopping at the atomic holiday bazaar in sarasota, fl.  this year i’ll be there selling my work.  i was honored to be selected and even more honored to be rocking my space with team sarasota!

i know it’s going be a good time.  last year i ran into an old friend who i hadn’t seen since before cell phones and internet!  crazy.

get to the bazaar early for sweet swag bags including some tiny sculptures by me!

small wall piece, soda fired porcelain, lots of yummy carbon trapping...

gearing up…

haven’t posted in awhile because i’ve been meaning to take some pictures but keep leaving my camera at work!  november is going to be a crazy month, lots of great stuff going on.  first of all, us a.i.r.s will load and fire the wood train kiln monday.  it will be my first time firing this kiln.  i missed out on a fun filled, peanut butter cup s’mores laden firing last month when i was out of town so i’m really looking forward to this.

wood train

last month's wood train. with autio platter. yay! pic by red.

next up i’ll be rocking a soda kiln.  i think j’s going to join me in firing, very exciting.  i’ve been “cranking’ out work, but for me that never means too much, too slow and trudgy.  especially since my show opened, it’s been hard to get back to the grindstone.  this week so far i’ve almost finished 10 small wall peices.  i’m working on tiny versions of my flora peices, in hopes of trying them in a few different kilns and also, getting them out to people for a more affordable price.

three sales coming up, eclectic and then some in gulfport, fl (will post info next wed.), atomic holiday bazaar (check out vendors now and start planning) and SPCC’s annual holiday sale.

spcc will also host 3 artists this month.  matt long, john ballisteri and don reitz will spend a week and a little with us making work in preparation for the anagama firing in january.  i’ll take the whole time off work to be around and help.  john and don were here firing the anagama on my way in to the residency so it’s very fitting to have them here on my way out as well.

i’ve got a few shows lining up but more on those later.

more in november and then….december.  proper pics and posts coming soon.

upcoming projects

bumbswhew, what a relief to have the show up.  opening night was great.  my awesome parents catered the event, providing more than enough foccacia, stromboli, hummus, coponata and beverages.  lars din and mel malfa played some sweet tunes, there was quite a crowd and sales were good.

lars

and of course i couldn’t have pulled it all off with out the cavalry coming in at the last moment in the form of a.  she helped me with hanging, designed all the text for the wall, took installation images and offered unwavering moral support.

i’ve been taking a break from the studio.  i picked up a few shifts at my job the last couple of days but  finally stopped in at the studio today to sweep.  it’s that time again.  time to sweep and mop and rearrange my studio space and get back to work.

some exciting projects are coming up.

-this weekend is folk fest.  i’ll be there with some folks from the clay co. as well as having a booth with the artlink team.  mary anne and i just started a blog about our artlink partnership.

-november 21st i’ll be selling work at an art sale in gulfport called “eclectic and then some.”  i’ll post more details on that soon.

-the atomic holiday bazaar is december 12th.  i’m really looking forward to participating.

and last but not least

-march 12th white box 2 opens.  a four person show curated by kara walker tome.

handmade rules the world

yesterday i spoke to my sister who spent the day the the bust magazine holiday craftacular.  jealous!  but i got my own taste of handmade movement goodness at the atomic holiday bazaar in sarasota.  i went to do some field research as well as to shop.  there were only two ceramic artists there, one potter with wild colorful glazes and a slip caster with parts of different molds assembled into fanciful creatures.  i saw a few people selling books (with other stationary items) and starting thinking how cool it would be to do a fair like this with m and her books. and i would love to bring my clay stuff next year.

my fan favorite (do i watch too much top chef?) was definitely jewelry maker opulent oddities.  her work was too good to pass up and i chucked my “browse and return” system to drop some cash at her booth.  i even had to run across the street to the atm for more because i needed to walk away with multiple pieces of her work.  i justified my purchases by focusing on the fact that i barely own anything these days.

necklace with map measurer pendant. (the other side is a compass so i knew it was meant to be!)

i also had the very pleasant surprise of seeing old friends megan (of flying heart jewelry) and don and family and another very old friend who i have not seen in nearly 15 years.

afterward we all went to liz’s and enjoyed cheesy delights and cocktails.

*sorry about the low quality pictures!  they’re from my cell phone, all i have at the moment.  working on it, hoping santa claus will bring me a camera for christmas…
